Treating yourself at home
If you have the flu you must stay at home within your family. You should avoid overstretching health care facilities and reserve hospitalisation for the most severe cases. This home treatment will require you and your family to take some precautions.
Take care not to contaminate your family
If you are sick you should stay away from other people in the home and if possible remain in an isolated and regularly aired room. You will limit contact with your family, particularly hugging and kissing and shaking hands, etc. You will wear a fluid repellent mask when in the presence of other people and cover your mouth every time you cough or sneeze. You will use single-use tissues to blow your nose or spit in and throw them away in a lined bin with a lid.
The sick person’s family and visits
Visits to the sick person in their bedroom should be reduced to the bare minimum. If possible, a single family member should take care of them.
Where possible, vulnerable people like young children, people suffering from chronic cardio-respiratory diseases, pregnant women, immuno-depressants and the elderly should not visit or take care of a person with the flu. If they do have to, however, they should scrupulously follow health and safety rules.
They should wash their hands thoroughly with soap or a hydroalcohol solution on leaving the sick person’s room and wear a mask when in close contact with them.
