Should you carry on with your job?
During an influenza pandemic, as soon as an employer has taken the necessary appropriate health and safety measures, in principle there is no reason for employees not to remain at work or go to work.
Nonetheless, if you begin to experience the first symptoms of flu while at work, you should quickly leave the premises and see a doctor. This could be the company works doctor if there is one on site, who may prescribe you time off work, or your own doctor. Before leaving the company, you must inform your manager to avoid breaching the labour law.
If, on the other hand, you decide not to come into work on your own initiative, without medical justification, your attitude could constitute a violation and you may lose the right to collect your salary or daily subsistence allowance. For more general information on absences and salaries, you should refer to the common labour law.
Talks within the company should resolve the practical problems caused by the pandemic as best possible (caring for children or a sick relative, etc.). It is a question of respecting the rights and safety of everyone, while helping the company to keep running.
