BOB: Pam, you know about the flu don’t you?
PAM: Of course I do, it’s a virus. Each year my Grandpa gets a flu shot for protection, because old and frail people are more likely to get the flu…
BOB: That’s right. But sometimes a new virus comes along for which we don’t have a vaccine. Hundreds of thousands of people can get sick. When the epidemic is global, it is called pandemic.
PAM: Wow! That must be a really horrible virus!
BOB: It is, and maybe we would have to stop going to school for a few weeks, until the pandemic is under control.
PAM: Well, that’s great!
BOB: Except that we wouldn’t be able to see our friends, or play football, or go to dance classes.
OK, just to check whether you have understood, why don’t you answer this question: What is pandemic flu?
A poorly panda?
A small temporary case of the flu?
A huge case of the flu that can spread to the whole world?
That’s not the right answer. Try again!
Well done! You got it!
